Wal-Mart and H&M Throw Away Unsold Items instead of Donating Them to Charities

I find this story stated this week by the NY Times concerning the 2 biggest retail stores sort of demoralizing.

Perhaps you are not aware that the 2 giant chain stores, Wal-mart and H&M have been discarding their returned or unsold goods directly to the garbage bags. Instead of bringing those un-disposable merchandise to donation centers or sample sales yet they opted to trash them.

However, aside from throwing the goods to trash, they made sure that those items are worthless as they have gone ahead and slashed up the clothing, chopped off the sleeves and sliced up a hole in the footwear or shoes to make them unsuitable to wear.

The dismaying discovery was made by a student outside the rear entrance of H&M on 35th St. in NY city. However, exactly a couple of doorways downward, she uncovered hundreds of items bearing or marked with Wal-Mart label as well. Nevertheless, the items were torn and have some holes on them that were discarded by a contractor.

The NY Times made a comment that 1/3 of the city’s residents are in poverty that causes this type of demeanor not only inefficient and sad but completely showing lack of care for the needy.

Wal-Mart representative made a claim that they normally send unworn items to charities or good cause but what about this unsettling discovery of unsold or returned merchandise found in the trash?

However, H&M company made a statement today assuring not to destroy any of the unworn merchandise and instead, give it to charities for donation. We are hopeful that this would be their final pronouncement.
